20th Century Girl (2022) Movie Review

20th Century Girl is one of my favorite Netflix movies. The movie is about a girl who secretly stalks her best friend's crush and gives her information about him while she is abroad for heart surgery.

Initially, the plot starts when Bo-ra’s dad receives a package for her daughter from Joseph. He calls her daughter to ask who he is. Bo-ra says that she doesn’t know who he is. Then he realised that there was a DVD in the package and he sent a photo of the DVD to Bo-ra. When Bo-ra saw the DVD, she got a flashback to old times, starting with her best friend Yeon-du calling her to meet. When Bo-ra comes to Yeon-du’s house, her friend tells her that she won't go to America because she just met the right boy for her, and she won't miss this opportunity that he is going to the same school as theirs. Bo-ra starts to think of a plan because her friend needs to go for a heart surgery that she can only have in America. So she makes an email account for them and tells her friend she will learn everything about that boy and send emails about him every day. With this, Yeon-du agrees to go.

Additionally, the thing I like best about this movie is the acting, which makes you laugh or cry with them. Every time I watch this movie, I never find it boring due to the acting skills. This movie is famous for the train scene, and it is my favorite scene too. Generally, in movies, farewells at train stations symbolize never meeting again. I think that there are a lot of details like this in the movie, which is a reason for you to watch.

However, a lot of people find this movie so dramatic and sad, but I don't agree. I watched this movie several times, and not even a tear was shed. This isn’t a movie to take lessons, and it doesn’t require much focus; it is just for fun.

All in all, 20th Century Girl is a great movie to watch. I recommend it to everyone who likes this kind of movie and who likes subtitles beacuse I think watching movies in their original language is always better, but there is a Turkish and English dub. It is a must-watch!
