Why Do Brands Make Their Cars Now Look so Basic?

Many manufacturers nowadays have started design their cars very simple and boring to support a trend. Why do brands do this? Is it about the costs, or something else? Let's find out!

The Trend:

As I've mentioned in the caption, this trend is also called minimalism. As you can understand from the name itself, it aims to make everything simple and minimal designed as much as possible. It is a style or technique that is characterized by extreme spareness and simplicity. Here's an exaple to a minimalistic art:
Minimalist and Non-Minimalist:

As you can see on left, we got 2 cars. A white one, and a red one. The red one is very simple with 4 doors, no sharp lines, and just a pretty basic sedan. But look at the white one! Very aggressive, so sharp, and a bold design... Even though the white one has a lot more brand status and is eye catching on the road, the red one looks like a basic family sedan to all the people. The race result? White one took a huge lose. You might ask "How did that even happen? The white one was way sportier!" I know, it's again, minimalism. It now rules the world with simple designs but still taking all the medals to itself.
The Reason Behind All:

We've came down to the most important part of the entire article: Why do they do this? The main reason behind is, they just want to only show their brand itself and not the product in whole. They want to give you the feeling of "We don't need to show off, we're already the best so why even try?" which is kind of false. Even though people care about brand image so much, we also want to get something valid for what we give. The thing that builds up brand image is not just meaningless words, it is actually some build quality which pays off your money. And another reason is, they just want to cut the design and material expenses while not dropping so called "brand image" to get a bigger share of money.
Encountering This in Life:

Car manufacturers just do these steps and make millions: "Throw cheap plastic everywhere, make the car look like a cardboard box, slam a television on the middle console and done." This is actually the reason new cars depreciate more quickly in value than older cars. Because the older cars could go for way longer without breaking down so easily or the interiors didn't wear out like newer ones because they didn't follow a trend like this, they actually cared about the product they sell to the market.
Conclusion:
Brands have been following minimalism to only show off quality, not actually sell quality. Get inside to any modern car, and you will see a huge screen on the dash instead of physical buttons and dials. This is mainly for lowering the build and design costs and pretending to be futuristic. Thank you for your time, I hope you enjoyed reading the article. (Note: This article does not contain any brand names or advertisements at all.)
